Orange Enamel Floral Kada

Orange is a difficult colour to wear and an easy one to want. This enamel kada solves the problem by keeping the orange warm rather than bright, closer to marigold than to traffic cone, with gold-tone flowers and trailing leaves raised across the dome of the bangle.

A kada is solid rather than hinged, so it goes over the hand in one movement and then stays put. That solidity is most of the appeal. It does not shift up the forearm through the day and it has no clasp to fail.

The enamel sits between the raised metal, which is the traditional way of doing it and also the practical way. Recessed enamel is protected by the metal around it, so the colour does not get scraped by a desk edge or a bag strap.

Anti-tarnish plating matters here more than on a piece worn occasionally. A kada takes constant contact and the raised flowers take the worst of it. On ordinary plated brass those high points go coppery within months. This one holds its gold tone through that contact with a wipe now and then.

Wear it alone against a plain sleeve, or with the marigold end of a festive wardrobe where the orange has company.
