Oval, heart, rectangle or round. The shape you pick changes this floating locket pendant more than you would expect, because each one frames its contents differently. The rectangle holds a straight line of charms. The round one lets them tumble.

All four are gold-plated brass with a clear glass front, opening at the back to be filled and closed again. The chain is a rolo, evenly linked and fine, with a lobster clasp. Nothing about the construction is heavy, which is deliberate on a locket meant to be worn most days rather than kept for occasions.

Filling it is the part people enjoy. Some put in loose charms. Others go with a chip of dried flower or a milk tooth, and because the case opens rather than seals, the contents change whenever the reason changes.

Plated brass over a glass face does not like heat or humidity, so a closed drawer beats a bathroom shelf.

A locket is one of the few pieces of jewellery that means nothing until someone fills it. That is either a drawback or the entire appeal.
