The teardrop hangs point-down and stays that way instead of spinning to show its back, which matters more on a locket than on any other pendant. This gold-plated locket necklace has a clear glass front and a hinged case, so it opens, takes whatever you want to carry in it, and closes again. Tiny charms, or a folded note trimmed down small. What goes in is yours to decide.

The case is gold-plated brass with a domed glass window, hung on a fine rolo chain that fastens with a lobster clasp. It is light enough to forget about by mid-morning, and the chain is fine enough to layer under a heavier necklace without crowding it.

Because the front is glass and the metal is plated rather than solid, treat it like the fashion piece it is. Keep it out of the shower, and wipe the window with a dry cloth when it fogs from moisture or perfume.

It works as a gift when you do not know someone's taste in jewellery but you do know their story. Fill it before you hand it over, or leave it empty and let them.
