Silver-Tone Initial Signet Ring

Signet rings started as a way to stamp wax, and the flat face never lost its appeal even after the sealing stopped. This one is a personalised silver-tone signet ring with a marquise face, narrow and pointed rather than the wide oval most signets take.

The letter is engraved into the face rather than printed on, so it holds up to the rubbing a ring gets from pockets and door handles. The band is fine, closer to a stacking ring than a chunky signet, which keeps the whole thing quiet on the hand.

About the colour. It is rhodium-plated brass, and rhodium is what gives the bright white finish. There is no silver in this ring despite the name, and that is worth saying plainly. Rhodium holds its brightness well for a plated piece as long as it stays clear of hand sanitiser and cleaning liquids.

A marquise face is a good shape for a single letter. It gives the engraver a long axis to work along, so letters with tails sit better than they do in a circle. Wear it on the little finger where signets traditionally sat, or on the index if you want it read.
